Historic Preservation
Learn to Assess, Restore and Preserve an Old Building

Fort Worden is a National Historic Landmark that has been lovingly preserved over the years but the maintenance backlog builds as Old Father Time takes his toll.  As you can see from the slide show there are lots of examples of how old buildings can deteriorate and start to fail. Making decisions on what is important to fix; where to start; and overcoming the notion that the task is impossible are difficult without a road map.

When we were negotiating opening the School at Fort Worden, Kate Burke (the Park Manager) suggested that we should have a Historic Preservation program and we agreed. We're now delivering on that promise.

We are delighted to welcome Kevin Palo to our faculty. Kevin runs Ten Mile Planing a company that specializes in building historically correct replacement windows for old houses. When not making windows Kevin is much in demand as a consultant on restoration projects for historic buildings. Kevin can help with you build that restoration road map for your old building.
