This course is designed to build your skills and confidence with a whole range of power tools.
The course is a mixture of presentations, demonstrations and plenty of hands-on practice. We'll reinforce these skills you through a series of small projects. During the week you will build small projects that use combinations of the machines. These projects will include a series of small boxes made with a variety of machine joinery, a small table and some jigs that we'll design during the course.
We'll address the safe setup and, especially, the safe use of each machine. We'll cover the essentials jigs that you should build for your own shop. We'll delve into when to sharpen and when to let the professional sharpen. We'll look at the designs for creating a safe workstation for each machine.
At the end of this course you will know how to use, tune and maintain most of the machines commonly found in the home or small professional workshop.
This course is designed to extend skills you learned in the Introduction to Woodworking class or some of our other classes.
We cover small hand held power tools: router, drills, biscuit joiner, Festool's Domino, power plane, jigsaws, circular saws, sanders and more
We'll cover the major stationary tools: Table saw, jointer, planer and bandsaw. We'll focus on ensuring that you develop good safe habits using the large machines. We'll drill you on safety equipment and safe shop practises.
We'll make sure that you can mill lumber, have practised resawing on the bandsaw.
We'll spend a day building a series of jigs for the router, the table saw and the bandsaw.
This course is scheduled after the Introduction to Woodworking classes in the Winter and Fall so that you can build on those skills.
