Say the words "Adirondack Chair" and your mind immediately conjures up a vision of soft summer days and pure relaxation. Wooden slat construction, wide arms, slanted back, and a generously contoured seat combine to produce an extremely comfortable American outdoor classic.

In this class, each student will build a complete chair. We'll start by examining the various elements that go into the traditional Adirondack design, and the materials and construction techniques required.

Layout will involve setting curves, scaled and segmented drawings, and pattern making. Cutting and milling will include sizing the materials, cutting and pattern routing curved forms, and also laying out and cutting tapers. At the end, we'll prepare the chair for the outdoors by applying a high quality, oil-based finish.
