Where Your Dollars will Go:
Our 12-week Foundations of Woodworking course, in the Winter of 2012, is intensive - the students work from 9-5, Monday through Friday under the guidance of highly skilled woodworkers and furniture makers.
In the Fall of 2012 we will be adding a 12-week Furniture Making course to our schedule. Any student completing these two courses will have the skills to fully develop as a Furniture Maker.
We will offer scholarships to young people (17-29 years old) from across the country to take these courses. We're extending our Scholarship program to allow Veterans and people transitioning out of the military (upto the age of 35 years old) to apply for scholarships.
Why is This Important?
In the Summer of 2011 our Board of Directors went through a strategic planning exercise to create a five year plan for the School. The Strategic plan clarified our sense of mission and articulated the Vision and Values that will drive the growth and development of the School.
The Board and Staff believe that the School needs to develop the next generation of craftsmen and craftswomen. Woodworking shop classes are disappearing from High Schools and not every student is suited to going to college. We believe it is vitally important to provide alternative routes for individuals to develop as craftsmen and to preserve the traditional skills and values of woodworking for future generations.
