Furniture Rescue
with John Marckworth & Tim Lawson

3 Day course

Tuesday, September 2, 2008 to Thursday, September 4, 2008

(Code:FR080902)

Rescue not restoration. We deliberately called this course "Furniture rescue". During this course we will look at damaged furniture and assess whether it can be rescued (restored to service) and repaired. Restoration is the "invisible" repair and full maintenance of the value of a piece of heirloom furniture - we are not attempting to teach this!

You can bring along your own piece of furniture and we will work on it with you during the course (but no guarantees!). There is also a lot of furniture at Fort Worden that has been damaged over the years and needs repair. This is not high value furniture but it will save the Fort money if it can be rescued. You'll then also get bragging rights on that piece of furniture.

We'll teach you how to repair broken joints, broken legs, replace handles & stops, fix up drawers, and more. We'll address the repair of finish; when to strip and refinish; when to paint and when to leave alone. Some finishes are so finicky that only professional should touch them!

We'll try and get some local experts to drop in and share their experience with us (this is work in progress so no promises yet).
