Aimed at the homeshop cabinetmaker, this course will teach you how to build basic cabinets, doors and drawers without big stationary tools. We'll show you how to achieve similar level of accuracy using hand power tools.
We'll teach you how to accurately measure up a room and plan the cabinets without using a tape measure. And how to design the cabinets to go into a room. We'll discuss doors and drawers - construction & applications.
This course will be a mixture of practical work, design sessions, lectures and slideshows that will cover basic cabinet carcass design & construction and explore the varieties of cabinet hardware, both standard and specialized.
In the practical part of the course you and a partner (or two depending on class size) will build an under bench cabinet or freestanding cabinet that will become part of the school furniture. These cabinets will be built with face frames, drawers and frame & panel doors. There is no material charge for the course.
We'll also include some of the more arcane arts - finishing and scribing-to-fit and other tricks of the trade. We'll lead you through the maze of design & technical resources available to the beginning cabinetmaker.
(We’re previously taught this as a three day course and we weren’t able to fully complete the cabinets so we're extending it to five days so that you’ll get the full experience of building a cabinet).
