Julia Harrison

Julia HarrisonJulia Harrison is a Seattle-based teaching artist specializing in small sculpture and jewelry.  Her favorite material is wood and her primary technique is hand carving.  She began carving almost 15 years ago, during a phase of living out of a bag and moving frequently; a small selection of hand tools became became her constant companions and local woods her favorite souvenirs.  Today she continues to enjoy taking the same approach:  low-tech, portable, and direct.  Her sculpture and jewelry have appeared in galleries and museums across the country and in England.

"Teaching gives me the opportunity to clarify my processes and allows me the privilege of watching students discover just how exciting, expressive, and accessible these materials and techniques can be.  I've taught wood-based workshops as venues such as the Penland School of Crafts (NC), the 92nd St Y (NY), Multnomah Arts Center (OR), Pratt Fine Arts Center (WA), and Arizona State University."
